In the beginning of the poem, Gawain is represent as one of the best knights in Arthurs kingdom, and how hale affected he is. At the initial Christmas feast, we shown Gawains resolution in stanza 5 when he says Would ye, desirable lord, bid me blackguard fro m this bench and bristle by you there.  In this quote, we see Gawains homage to his lord, Arthur, as well as his supreme courage by taking the dispute offered by the Green Knight. Later in the aforementioned quote, Gawain shows his lowliness by saying he is the weakest, and feeblest in wit, of all of Arthurs knights.
